Four-year-old Ashton Christopher was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) at birth. Since then, he has bravely undergone routine brain MRIs every six months to closely monitor any signs of progression.
This month, doctors discovered lesions on Ashton’s brain, indicating the disease has begun to progress. Because ALD can advance rapidly, immediate treatment is critical to stop further damage and save his life. Ashton will undergo ten days of chemotherapy, followed by a bone marrow transplant.
To ensure Ashton receives this treatment, his family must temporarily relocate to Minnesota, where the medical specialists are located. During this time, Ashton’s mother is also navigating serious medical challenges of her own. After battling repeated infections and undergoing multiple surgeries, she recently had a portion of her leg amputated. Despite her own recovery, she will be traveling frequently between home and Minnesota to attend Ashton’s appointments while continuing to manage her health, care for Ashton’s brother, Carter, and maintain their household in two locations. Ashton will be admitted into the hospital for 1-2 months and will need to remain within a mile of the hospital for 90 days following his bone marrow transplant.
Any support, whether through donations or sharing this page, is deeply appreciated as this family faces the next several months of treatment and uncertainty. Your kindness will help ease the financial burden and allow them to focus on what matters most Ashton’s healing and recovery.
