Support Ashlie's Long Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Update: Ashlie had a second surgery last week. Everything went well. They replaced grafs on 3% of her burns. Since then, she has been healing nicely. They are expecting to release her next week. We are hoping to get some help to bring her to Washington.
Last night, my sister Ashlie suffered a terrible accident. She was in her van—her only shelter—boiling water when the pot tipped over, spilling scalding water across her front. At the time, she was lying on her bed, cuddling her dog Sparta. She was rushed to the hospital and immediately airlifted from Montana to Utah due to the severity of her burns.
Ashlie has suffered extensive burns and painful blisters. Doctors say her recovery could take days or even weeks in the hospital, followed by a long and difficult healing process. She’s currently far from home, scared, and unable to work.
Ashlie is homeless and now facing this unimaginable situation with no income, no nearby support system, and a long road ahead. Our mom flew out this morning from Washington to be by her side, but travel, hospital bills, aftercare, and the cost of simply surviving without work are quickly adding up.
We’re asking for help to cover:
Medical and recovery expenses
Temporary housing once she's discharged
Support for Sparta, her dog and constant companion
Travel and living costs for our mom while she’s with Ashlie
Essentials for daily living while she’s unable to work
Any amount helps, and we’re so grateful for your support during this painful and frightening time.
Update – April 7th
We wanted to thank you all for your continued love, support, and generosity—every donation, share, and kind word has meant the world to our family.
On Thursday, Ashlie underwent surgery for skin grafts, and we’re relieved to share that the procedure went well. This past Sunday, doctors removed the bandages to check the grafts—and they took them successfully. While this is a huge step forward in her recovery, Ashlie is still in extreme pain and has a long road ahead.
Her estimated discharge date is April 25th, but she will need ongoing care and, most importantly, a safe place to recover. We’re doing everything we can to prepare for her return to Washington. I've reached out to several housing programs, including:
Dorothy Day House
Drexel House
Noal House
Patrick Place Apartments
I’ve also contacted the American Burn Association to see if they offer resources or support options for survivors like Ashlie. If you know of other housing or assistance programs in Washington or have any advice, we would be so grateful for your insight.
Ashlie is still far from home, unable to work, and facing the aftermath of this trauma while fighting through pain every day. Your support is helping us keep her safe, supported, and surrounded by love—and we can’t thank you enough.
With all our hearts,
Thank you for loving Ashlie the way we do.
