Ashley and I have been friends since the fifth grade, when we bonded over our shared sense of humor and love for late-night movie marathons. Over the years, she’s been the kind of friend who makes everyone feel seen and valued, always remembering the little things about people and reaching out to let them know they matter. Even as adults, separated by distance, Ashley has never failed to remind me—and so many others—how special we are to her. She’s a devoted aunt, sister, and daughter, fiercely loving her family and always putting others first.
The day before Ashley was admitted to the hospital, she suffered a stroke. Once at the hospital, doctors discovered she had congestive heart and kidney failure, as well as blood clots across her heart, with one artery completely blocked. She underwent open heart surgery and, during her stay, suffered additional mini strokes, seizures, and internal bleeding. Doctors also diagnosed her with a rare blood disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome, where her immune system attacks normal proteins in the blood. She remains in the ICU, facing a long and uncertain road to recovery. With her medical insurance lapsed, Ashley is responsible for all her medical expenses, including ongoing hospital bills, medications, and everyday living costs like her home and utilities. While her mother, sister, and extended family are by her side, the financial burden is overwhelming.
Ashley is strong-willed and rarely asks for help, but she knows she can’t face this alone. She’s always been the caretaker, the one who steps up for others, and now it’s our turn to support her. Your donation will help relieve the stress of mounting bills so Ashley can focus on healing. Every bit of support will show her that she’s not alone and that it’s okay to let others care for her, just as she’s always cared for us.
