Hi everyone,
My name is Ashley, and I’m currently in my second year of nursing school. I’m writing this with a mix of hope and humility because, truthfully, this journey has not been easy, and I’ve reached a point where I need to ask for support from anyone who might be able to help in any way possible.
When I started nursing school, I knew it would be challenging, but I don’t think anything could have prepared me for the emotional, mental, and financial weight that comes with it. From long clinical shifts and back-to-back exams to long nights of studying, care planning, and trying to make ends meet, there are moments when it feels overwhelming. I’ve stayed focused because I love this profession. I’ve seen firsthand, through personal experiences and work as a medical assistant, just how much of a difference nurses make in people’s lives. And I want to be that nurse, one who listens, advocates, and heals.
But passion alone can’t cover tuition, books, scrubs, and transportation. It doesn’t ease the stress of wondering how I’ll afford my next semester or how I can work enough hours to stay afloat without falling behind in my coursework. I’ve applied for scholarships and budgeted tightly, but it’s still not enough. I know others are struggling too, which makes it hard to ask. But I also know that community and kindness are powerful forces.
If you’re someone who has the ability to help, no matter how small a contribution, I would be deeply grateful. Every bit counts. I don’t take any of it for granted. I’m committed to becoming the kind of nurse who not only provides excellent care but also remembers where I came from and pays it forward to future students walking the same path.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. It means more than you know.
- Ashley.
