We, Wendy and Abby, are asking you to help our cousin, Ashley.
Ashley started fighting breast cancer in May 2023. Because the tumors were so large they couldn’t be removed, she had nine months of chemo, followed by a double mastectomy. After the surgery, her doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, and she had to have nine more months of chemo, along with radiation treatment. While all of this was going on, she lost her job. Even though she had insurance through her husband Chase’s work, it didn’t cover all the treatment, and Ashley has an outstanding balance she can’t pay.
In addition, she now faces even more medical bills. Ashley’s cancer has metastasized, with new tumors forming in a lung. According to her doctor, more chemotherapy is her only chance medically to have more time with her family. This June she and Chase changed their insurance because their existing plan wouldn’t cover a third round of chemo. But the new policy has even higher premiums and deductibles. We’re asking you to help Ashley with her medical expenses and have more time on earth with the people she loves.
Ashley is determined to continue fighting for her life. Her daughter Bentley (14), sons Hunter (16) and Caden (23), and husband Chase are the center of her world. She oversees her two teens’ education and extracurricular activities, and supports their goals and interests, such as Bentley’s cheer activities and Hunter’s guitar playing. She keeps her family going through good times and hard times, and they keep her going as well.
Right now, times are hard. Her husband Chase and daughter and sons continue to rally around her, but one income only goes so far. Because the adults in the family can’t miss work, Ashley’s been driving herself to chemo treatments, and it’s been difficult for her to muster the energy just to get back home. The treatments leave her unable to do much besides rest and spend time with her family.
Ashley means the world to us. Abby grew up hitting just about every developmental milestone with Ashley’s mother, Gayla. They even had their daughters, Ashley and Lauren, within months of each other. Wendy felt like she was in heaven when these two babies were born. Then she got to watch Ashley grow up and become an incredibly dedicated and loving mother.
For Ashley and her family, the emotional toll of the past few years has been overwhelming and the financial burden debilitating. And now they face new challenges. But we believe in the power of community to make a difference. And we believe you do, too. Any donation will help to pay Ashley’s medical expenses, as well as support her and her family.
