- Hi my name is Robert Walker and I am trying to raise money for a very unexpected hardship of the start to our new family. As you may know, Ashley had sweet little Archie through an unexpected c- section on October 12th. He was in the NICU for a few days and she was in the mommy unit at the hospital. They both came home on the evening of October 17th. By the time we got home Ashley was running a fever of 101.7. The night before we left the hospital she was running a low grade fever but they just thought it was bc her breast milk was coming in. So we just thought the same. On the night of the 18th around 7 when I was helping her we noticed a little spot on her skin and she just thought maybe it was dried blood it wasn't to big. By 330 am she was running a fever of 102.3 and the spot now was black, the size of a baseball with a foul odor. Her sister rushed her immediately back to the hospital. From there they said it was Necrotizing Fasciitis, a flesh eating bacteria that had gotten into her c section stitches. She was in surgery within an hour of being at the hospital and intubated for two days in critical care. She had to have an emergency hysterectomy because the bacteria spread fast and aggressively . When she woke up, they put a wound vac on the very large wound. A couple days later she went back under with another breathing tube to get more tissue that wasn't healing. During her stay at the hospital she endured 4 surgeries in total to remove affected tissue and eventually had a mesh placed to hold the tissue together. She stayed in the ICU for 4 days and then in the hospital for a few more. From there she has been transferred to a wound care facility on multiple heavy antibiotic IVs, and a wound vac, that is helping the tissue grow back together. She is in pain because of muscle they had to cut through, but she is walking the hallways everyday trying to get home to Archie and I. Before all of this, we financially prepared for maternity/paternity leave because Ashley has no work benefits. So we prepaid our mortgage and car payments for the time off we were going to need. Unfortunately now, she is going to have to be off for 3 extra months due to the large wound that is going to take awhile to heal. I am taking off to help her and Archie, my work is going to let me be considered primary parent with everything going on. Ashley is gonna need help with the wound vac, making sure the sight stays well and no more infection appears. She can't really bend over to pick things up or carry a lot of weight. Among that, when they did the surgery they went back through the c section scar, so it also is gonna take longer to heal. We never ask for help but this has been a life changing situation ,which has led us to reaching out asking for assistance.
