Hello my name is Ashley Overright and I'm fundraising on behalf of myself and my son. These last few months have been the hardest time for our family and although we have great insurance it doesn't cover all the bills that are starting to overwhelm us. My motto has always been when you hit a wall you just learn to pivot. Well I've had to pivot so much I think sometimes I'm going backwards. So here's our story. In November my son just turned 18, was taken to the ER for some strange symptoms. After some testing it turned out his kidneys were failing. Cue to an emergency rush to the University of Utah hospital where we spent weeks trying to find out what was causing this. His numbers were so high they said he should have been in a coma or worse. Finally we got answers. He has an auto immune disease called ANCA vasculitis. Lucky it seems to only be his kidneys for now. After a few more stays at the hospital that lasted weeks we got the majority of his symptoms under control. He was able to go home to do home dialysis. He is on a machine the uses his body to filter his toxins that kidneys normally do. He is on this machine for about 18 hours everyday. So that means he can't work or really do anything a young man his age should be able to do. Now he needs a new kidney and has officially been put on the transplant list. Great news there! If you or anyone you know wants to see about donating a kidney here is the link https://healthcare.utah.edu/transplant/living-donor/kidney
I was his primary care taker and was even getting started to be a kidney donor. But things changed when I got diagnosed with bone cancer a few weeks ago. Worse timing ever right? My tumor was in my arm measuring 9.4 cm. It had broken through the bone and was piercing my muscles leaving me in an incredible amount of pain and decreased mobility. Lucky I was able to get into the Huntsman Cancer Institute right away.
My surgery to remove the cancer and do a reverse shoulder replacement was on the 14th of June. I'm still in recovery and will be for 3 months at least. I can't work in my current condition and our bills are adding up quite a bit. I normally would never be asking for charity but I physically can not help my family at this time. I know times are hard on so many of us right now and asking others for help is very hard for me. The money would go into paying off our additional medical bills so my son doesn't have to start life with so much debt. Any amount that you can do would be so appreciated. Please only give if you are able to. Thank you from my whole heart.
