Hello, my name is Katie and I am Ashley Spinner's older sister and best friend. I've created this GoFundMe due to the recent and tragic death of Ashley's husband, Shane Spinner. It's hard to believe that less than 2 years ago, Shane and Ashley were married in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by their family and friends, with a hopeful future ahead. Both having a son of their own, the four of them became a blended family and started their happily-ever-after with so much love and enthusiasm.

Today, Ashley is planning a celebration of life for her husband at a time when they should have been creating new memories as a family. As some of you may know, Shane struggled with mental illness, and despite immense love and support, Shane lost his battle to mental illness on March 15, 2026. This is an unimaginable, unique, and complicated grief process. My sister's family will face many challenges ahead as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.

Ashley has gone from being a single mother of one to a widow and single mother of two as she now copes with so many life decisions she must make. Following the conclusion of a 5-day bereavement leave (which never is enough time), Ashley returned to work and the boys have returned to school; yet Ashley's free time is spent planning Shane's celebration of life, completing all the necessary end of life paperwork, attending appointments and preparing for court hearings to finalize the adoption of her step-son, in addition to performing the daily duties of parenthood in the midst of her grief with grace and strength for the love of her boys.

The family has received an outpouring of support with meals, prayers, calls and visits which have been a true blessing during this difficult time. People continue to reach out asking what they can do and how they can help so this GoFundMe page has been created as a compassionate platform for community support with unexpected death expenses, attorney/court fees to finalize the adoption, grief counseling, 4-6 months of overhead expenses that were once covered by a dual income and now falls squarely on Ashley's shoulders as the sole breadwinner. The funds will enable her and the children to remain in the home until she is able to sell it and relocate nearer to family.

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances there is no life insurance policy that would have otherwise provided some financial security to the family in the event of an unexpected death. Therefore, every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant impact for Ashley and her children with a goal to relieve her of some of the financial stress she is enduring and allow her and the boys time to focus on grieving and healing.
