Ashlee, my niece who is like my daughter, has always been a source of light and strength in our family. Recently, she faced a sudden and frightening health crisis that has turned her world upside down. On Friday, March 20, Ashlee went in for an endoscopy and biopsy. By midnight, she was in excruciating pain and struggling to breathe. Despite several visits to different emergency rooms, her symptoms only worsened. It wasn’t until she was admitted to the hospital that doctors discovered fluid on both lungs and a mass on her left lung. Now, Ashlee is hospitalized at Kaiser Permanente, undergoing further testing as her medical team works to find answers.

This has been an incredibly difficult time for Ashlee and her partner, Emmanuel, who is Elianna’s dad. While Ashlee is unable to work and focuses on her health, Emmanuel has been working hard, picking up overtime shifts and helping care for their five-month-old daughter, Eliana, who is the light of their lives. The uncertainty and stress of Ashlee’s health, combined with the responsibility of raising a baby and managing daily expenses, have placed a tremendous burden on their young family.
