Please Support Asheville High Speech & Debate After Helene

When Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina in September with unprecedented catastrophic force, the Asheville High/SILSA Speech & Debate Team competition year was just about to get underway. Cases and speeches were being eagerly prepped and rehearsed, travel plans were coming together, and behind the scenes, the team's Booster Club was launching a fundraising plan to support the team's travel dreams and goals.

This week, one month later, students have returned to classrooms for the first time since the storm, and the boosters are determined to pick up where we left off, recruiting support for this amazing group to have their best season yet. Only now, not only are many team members' families facing financial burden from the storm, but many of our traditional funding sources, including local small businesses and friends and neighbors of the team, are devastatingly impacted as well.

In the face of this widespread community devastation, we are reaching out to widen our circle of support to the national speech & debate community, to ask for your help in funding this fabulous dedicated team's competition year. This year, more than ever, we hope to subsidize expenses as much as possible so that every student who is facing additional economic instability from the hurricane can still participate. Donations to this fund will go directly to the AHS/SILSA Speech & Debate Booster Club, allowing us to support travel for students and coaches to local, regional, and national tournaments, helping provide the team an amazing year after a devastating storm.
