Renewal by Andersen of Greater Sacramento is grateful to have a wonderful measure technician, Dan Gebhart, who truly goes above and beyond for the success of the team.
We want to share Dan's son, Asher's, story with our RBA community to find all the love and support we can show him. Asher is a very brave 10-year-old kid who has experienced a complicated medical history at his young age. Dan's family has been very humble about receiving support throughout Asher's journeys but we want to step out and extend a helping hand to our community and show any support we can offer!
Asher’s extreme scoliosis causes him to be in a lot of pain at times- which has also affected his digestion due to how the condition twists his abdomen and rib cage. Additionally, Asher experiences hip dysplasia because of the scoliosis, and this will most likely need to be operated on after all of the scoliosis treatments and surgeries.
Asher has some big things happening this summer to try and correct his extreme scoliosis:
On June 24, Asher will be admitted to Shriners Children’s Hospital to have a halo traction device surgically placed in his body (he will be staying here for a full four weeks during the halo traction treatment).
On July 22, immediately after the traction treatment, Asher will undergo spinal fusion surgery in the same hospital. Dan's family has been told the recovery time for the surgery is 1-2 weeks, but given Asher‘s complicated medical history the family is preparing to expect more time for Asher's full recovery.
Asher's mom, Andrea, has spent the last 10 years as Asher‘s primary caregiver. The family is fortunate enough that there is a program where she can be paid to care for him. Once Asher is admitted to the hospital, the family will no longer be supported for in-home care.
The Gebhart family has allotted hours and expenses to make Asher's life as comfortable as it can be and are doing a great job! We are asking for our RBA family to come show all the love and support to Asher and are wishing him a speedy recovery. Thank you RBA family!
