Please Help Us Get Ash and Ranger’s Heartworm Treatment!

Hi All, as many of you know, I recently rescued a bonded pair of pups, Ash and Ranger, from a euthanasia list in Texas. They were scheduled for euthanasia due to overcrowding, and I’m so grateful I met them because they are two of the most loving, affectionate dogs I’ve ever known. They truly deserve a second chance at life.

Unfortunately, both Ash and Ranger are heartworm positive, and the rescue they came from did not provide treatment for over six months. By the time I started fostering them, I noticed symptoms in Ash. Their condition has progressed, making it more costly to treat, and the standard "slow-kill" method isn’t an option.

Without going into too much detail, it’s been a challenge getting the original rescue to cover the cost. So, with the help of our amazing vet tech Shay and Karen at Dogtopia of Houston, where they were originally housed and loved, we’ve decided to raise funds. Dogtopia will also be holding a small fundraiser to help supplement the cost. Both Shay and I have already purchased the meds for the first part of their treatment.

Shay, who works at a vet clinic here in Colorado, was able to secure a generous 75% discount on their treatment, bringing the total cost down to $1,800 for both pups. While this is still a significant amount, it’s a fraction of what typical heartworm treatments cost—usually around $2,000 per dog. If you are able to contribute in any way, we would be furever grateful for your help in ensuring these sweet dogs get the gold-star care they deserve. Once they’ve been treated, our goal is to find them their forever home. In the meantime, I’ll be fostering them throughout their treatment and will share updates along the way.

A little more about Ash and Ranger: They were found together in a ditch in Texas and have been inseparable ever since. When one sits, the other follows. They even insist on eating out of the same bowl and being in the same crate! Dogtopia of houston took great care in rehabilitating them and showing them lots of love.
