Help Our Indie Bookstore Stay in Travelers Rest!
Hello friends, neighbors, and book lovers near and far, We’re reaching out with hopeful hearts and a bit of vulnerability to ask for your support as we face an unexpected and significant challenge. Our independent bookstore has been part of the Travelers Rest community for 17 wonderful years, and for the past 5, we've been lucky to call Main Street our home. We've weathered many storms over the years, and through it all, our mission has remained the same: to bring people together through the joy of books, ideas, and connection.
The Situation: Our lease is set to end at the end of the year, and is set to double in cost per month. This is not financially viable for us. We've found a new, more affordable space in town, which we’re excited about — but there's a catch: this space is available starting October 1, 2025, which means we’d need to break our lease three months early. Unfortunately, breaking our lease early is not an option, we are still fully responsible for rent, utilities, and maintenance through December 31, even if we vacate. This puts us in a difficult position: we cannot afford to pay rent on two spaces, and we don’t want to lose our chance to stay in this town that is our home.
What We’re Asking: We’re humbly asking for help from our community to raise $15,000 to assist with:
Paying off the remaining lease amount and utilities for the final 3 months of 2025
Covering the costs of moving our inventory, fixtures, and shelving
Making essential improvements to the new space so we can reopen smoothly and keep serving the community
Every dollar brings us closer to continuing the story of this little bookstore in the heart of Travelers Rest. If you’ve ever browsed our shelves, come to an event, shared a book recommendation, or just believe in the magic of independent bookstores, we’d be so grateful for your support. Whether you can give $5 or $500, or just share this with others, it all means the world to us.
With deep gratitude and bookish love,
