Join Arvin’s Fight Against Paralysis
Donation protected
On Saturday, August 31, Arvin Del Rosario underwent emergent surgery after sudden onset back pain that resulted in paralyzation from his chest to his lower extremities. He is one of the rare people who suffered from a Non-Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury (NTSCI).
Earlier that day, Arvin felt a muscle spasm in his back unrelieved by walking or rest. Arlene, his wife, drove him to the ER after he began to appear pale and restless. While in the car, Arvin began to complain of chest pain and shortness of breath. Arlene called 911 from the car and by the time the paramedics arrived, Arvin was paralyzed and unable to step out of the car.
Imaging showed a large blood clot from C5-T4. He underwent an emergent laminectomy to evacuate the clot and has been in the ICU for close monitoring. The doctors are unsure what caused his clot, and say it is unusual for this to happen in an otherwise healthy man.
Arvin and Arlene are high school sweethearts celebrating over 25 years of marriage. They have two sons together, Jade and Jed. Basketball has always been at the center of their lives, and Arlene and Arvin have attended all of their sons’ games. The hope is that Arvin will be able to walk and play basketball with his sons again.
We humbly ask our friends and family for help during this difficult time to help cover the cost of medical bills, including the special equipment Arvin will need after discharge as he has a long journey to recovery ahead of him.
Thank you for your contribution.
