Support An Artist In Their Home Renovation Journey

Hi, my name is Tristan, locally known as the artist “Fox” or Madfox. Born and raised in Detroit, I have always had a dream of having my own space here to continue creating and living out of. Something that is difficult to do in an apartment or your parents' living room. “Sorry about the floor, mom!”

In 2023, I decided to gamble my savings on a house and quickly learned how little power you have against big property groups and rich folks who don’t live here and take advantage of what little property opportunities are granted to Detroiters. After months of losing against high bidders, I was able to win something! In January 2024, I became the owner of a little rough-looking 1920s farmhouse with all the sunlight and hardwood flooring you could ask for. It’s not spacious, but that doesn’t scare me. I have plenty of skills at my disposal to turn this humble home into a beautiful live-work space, but I could use some help…

This house has been abandoned for at least 10-12 years. Even though this house has great bones and minimal damage from the elements and people, it needs a hefty overhaul to get it to a livable condition. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, windows, bathroom, kitchen, gutters, and siding are a few of the most important on my to-do list. So far, I have gotten quite a bit done but have exhausted my savings and have been paying for the renovation with my art and a full-time job. As you can imagine, it’s a lot for one person to handle by themselves. Anyone who knows me knows that I am quick to offer my help but bad at asking for help when I need it… and boy do I need it.

I am currently seeking to raise 10k. Nowhere near what I actually really need, but this will get me a little further than where I am now. I’ve already put 40k into this via foundation work, a gated door, rough plumbing, electrical phase 1, replacing steps in both the front and back, removing large trees, and then some.
