This is a fundraiser to help the Owens family pay for their oldest son Arthur to get the IVIG infusions he needs. They’ve been through so much these past couple months searching for answers and trying different treatments. Unfortunately now health insurance is denying their claim for the IVIG infusions. Each infusion is $20,000 and he may need multiple.
Arthur was diagnosed with PANS after suddenly exhibiting strange and out of control behavior. Loss of motor skills and cognitive abilities soon followed. After a plethora of tests to rule out brain tumor and other causes, and other treatments being ineffective, their last resort are the IVIG infusions.
PANS stands for “Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome”. It is a clinically defined disorder characterized by the sudden onset of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCD) or eating restrictions, concomitant with acute behavioral deterioration in at least two designated domains. Comorbid PANS symptoms may include: anxiety, sensory amplification or motor abnormalities, behavioral regression, deterioration in school performance, mood disorder, urinary symptoms and/or sleep disturbances. PANS does not require a known trigger, although it is believed to be triggered by one or more pathogens.
Although this disorder is clinically defined it seems many doctors refuse to acknowledge it as an actual diagnosis. Which is why finding treatment can be difficult. Please help the Owens family by contributing to their GoFundMe. Every dollar counts. Thank you!!!!
