Support Art Read's Journey to Help The World Read His Art
Donation protected
My name is Art Read and I'm raising funds to support myself while obtaining a publishing deal for the book I am writing and illustrating, some graphics with hand lettering, cartoon style.
No donation is too small (nor too large!) Donations can be made anonymously, if preferred. Roughly half of my half of house sale proceeds went to help others in need; with no regrets. Now I need help because income from book sales and no-mo'-dough-day didn't align properly on my calendars.
The book is ostensibly about how I taught myself a different method of cornering a bicycle a third of a century ago after reading a magazine article about it by pro racer Davis Phinney. I found it to be both a safer and faster way to go around the bends and thought that by now all the world would know it and be using it for more fun and fewer crashes.
Alas, this still hasn't happened.
My cartoon-style graphics have been published on T-shirts, cycling caps, water bottles, business cards, and other swag for the Bike Peddler, Spoke Folk Cyclery, and the Healdsburg Farmers' Market. My writing, usually illustrated and sometimes hand-lettered, has been published in Competitive Cycling, California (and Texas) Bicyclist, The Fat Tire Flyer, and Read and Wipe magazines, as well as the Healdsburg Tribune weekly newspaper and flyers and brochures for Santa Rosa Cycling Club's Wine Country Century and Terrible Two double century rides. And I drew the logos for the first, third and fourth Rock Hopper mountain bike races.
Aside from some business logos and a couple of self-published greeting cards, I have not been published for the above-mentioned third of a century. I am at the threshold of publishing my first book, for which I am coming out of semi-retirement as a graphic artist.
I feel that the world is about ready to know that our neuroplastic brains are "rewiring" always, right now, and that this knowledge can be used to learn to follow our fun toward safer vehicular travel without shame nor blame and, who knows; maybe even avoid the obvious apparent destination in which our current global and local intersectional apocalyptic clusteruckus is now headed?
I made a decision to start stopping at stop signs on my bicycle in 1975 and have taught myself other safe riding behaviors since then, which has enhanced my personal fun factor and informed safer driving habits as well. I recently realized that changing these rolling behavior patterns is being a form of mindfulness training in order to change my brain enough to where they are becoming automatic; as is awareness, itself. This, along with other influences, is and has been helping me make many positively-directed changings in all aspects of my life.
I still seem to need to run out of important green rectangles in order to get my big life changes to happen; but I'm working on that right now.
I am seeing the no-regrets way in which I came to be needing this fundraising effort as totally positive, and perhaps material for another book. Some writers will do almost anything for material!
Thank you for reading this Read's art of writing. Your help is appreciated and will always be acknowledged!
