My name is Armen Ra and I’ve been performing and making independent music for over 25 years. I've poured my life and soul into creating beautiful, meaningful music outside the mainstream. I'm currently recording my seventh studio album — a project I believe is among the most progressive and powerful I’ve ever worked on. As an independent artist who is practically unknown, making unpopular music on an instrument no one has ever heard of, I have always had jobs to support myself and still do. Making music independently in the streaming age is harder now than ever.

The Reality of Independent Music Today

Like many underground artists, I don’t make money off of my music anymore — in fact, I lose money every year just to keep it online. Streaming platforms might make my work accessible, but they don’t pay artists fairly, (1000 streams = $5.00). To keep my catalog available for listeners, I pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket annually. At this point I simply cannot afford to continue without support.
