The Arkansas Storm Educational Sports Program (A.S.E.S.P.) was founded in 2021 by Alexis N. James, M.S., B.S., while she was a student at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Seeing a need for mentorship, academic support, and structured athletic opportunities for underserved youth, she combined her passion for education and basketball to create a program that empowers Arkansas athletes both on and off the court. With just a $1,200 tax refund, she launched the organization and personally purchased uniforms for the first group of players.
What started with 10 students from Maumelle has now grown to serve over 75 youth across the state. Under Director James’ leadership, A.S.E.S.P. continues to offer mentorship and athletic development, with plans to expand academic support to ensure young athletes have the resources they need to succeed in all areas of life.
The organization is supported by a dedicated leadership team, including Ryan Brook, B.S., Assistant Director of Communications, and Taylor Youngblood, M.S., B.S., Executive Director of Communications, who are instrumental in growing the program's reach and impact.
At this time, A.S.E.S.P. is facing a critical challenge: the loss of access to our main gym facility. We are seeking donations to help cover gym rental fees and purchase essential equipment so we can continue to serve our athletes and fulfill our mission.
