Support ARK Shelter's Winter Needs for Dogs

Welcome to the world's first Nureongi Sanctuary—ARK Shelter!

These are dogs who were brutally killed for meat under the guise of health benefits and tradition.
They were born in wire cages with gaping holes in the floor—unable to sit or lie down comfortably—and raised on food waste mixed with antibiotics.

They never tasted clean water.

The only humans they ever knew were the ones who dragged their friends away, stuffed five dogs at a time into tiny nets, and slaughtered them in unspeakably cruel ways.
For nearly 20 years, these horrors repeated themselves in that place, and countless lives were lost.
In the summer of 2020, a courageous citizen's report brought the Incheon Gyeyang Mountain dog farm to light.

Word spread, and people came together.

They rescued the 250 dogs who had survived, and continue caring for them to this day.
Our dogs—guilty of nothing more than being born on a meat farm—endured discrimination and suffering they never deserved.
They eat, sleep, wag their tails, run, and smile. Nureongi dogs are no different from any other dogs.
There's no such thing as a "meat dog."

Food doesn't wag its tail.

Please join us at ARK Shelter so these dogs can finally live the lives they deserve.

Note: Nureongi are Korean yellow dogs, a breed historically raised for meat consumption in Korea.

By now, you've probably heard of the ban on dog meat in South Korea. This is a great achievement to be sure. Not only are the farms illegal now, but sales of dog meat are also banned. We welcome this brave new step and urge the government not to stop there, but to keep the momentum going by making it easy for the farmers to transition out of the business. Based on 2023 estimates (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-67920167), South Korea still has around 1,600 dog meat restaurants and 1,200 dog farms.

Now let's look at the reality. The dogs from the meat farms are typically left to the already stretched local shelters, and sadly, many of them won't get to live happily ever after. South Korean local governments do not have shelters ready for 500,000 dogs from the meat farms. As yet, no mention of financial support for the shelters has been made in any government briefing.

WITH YOUR HELP, WE CAN CHANGE THAT.

We can change that by adopting these dogs and bringing them into our lives. These dogs are not any different from your pet. You can show the world how these dogs are just like any other dog. ARK still has about 120 dogs from the dog meat farm, and the biggest hurdle we face when adopting them out is the misconception people have about them.

They are no longer scared dogs. Thanks to the staff and the volunteers who come to help out, the dogs have finally learnt LOVE, and what the loving eyes of a person mean.
They are no longer hungry dogs. Thanks to the many generous donors, we are now able to provide them with food and snacks.
They are no longer sick dogs. Thanks to the many sponsors, we can take them to the vet should there be signs of illness.

The dogs now know that a LEASH means a walk, not a trip to the slaughterhouse.
The dogs now know that a BROOM means having their pen cleaned, not receiving a beating.

It is said that the meat farmers mixed Jindos, Tosa Dogs, Retrievers, and Great Danes in an effort to create big docile dogs that are just like teddy bears. And the word from all the fosters here is that these dogs are just like teddy bears. Big, soft, cuddly bears.

As winter approaches, ARK urgently needs funds for winterization—including insulated kennels, heating systems, and warm bedding—to protect our dogs from the harsh cold they're facing for the first time in safe conditions. Ongoing veterinary costs remain critical, as many of these dogs still require medical treatment for health issues stemming from years of neglect and abuse on the meat farm.

If you're unable to adopt, please consider donating to help us provide these dogs with the warmth, medical care, and safety they desperately need. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference in giving them the second chance at life they deserve.

TOGETHER, WE CAN CHANGE THEIR WORLD.
