Support Arianna's Fight Against NMDA Receptor Encephalitis

Hi, everyone. My name is Brianna, and I am Arianna's older sister. I'm reaching out to you with a heavy heart to ask for your support for my younger sister, Arianna. On January 24th, 2025, our world was turned upside down when Arianna was diagnosed with a rare and devastating autoimmune disorder: anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. This condition, as depicted in the book and Netflix film "Brain on Fire," causes the body's immune system to attack the brain's NMDA receptors, which are vital for learning, memory, and cognitive function.

Arianna, a vibrant 22-year-old and a senior in college pursuing her passion for English/Journalism, was looking forward to a bright future as a writer. Suddenly, she began experiencing seizures and signs of brain swelling, rapidly deteriorating into a catatonic state, unable to communicate. Doctors have tried various treatments, including steroids and plasma exchange therapy, but unfortunately, they have not yet been effective. She is currently hospitalized, intubated, and sedated, and relies on a tracheostomy and feeding tube. A trial treatment was attempted but did not yield positive results, and doctors are now exploring other avenues. We are still hopeful that she will recover.

Arianna is a bright and loving soul who enjoys spending time with friends, attending music concerts to support emerging artists, exploring art museums, drawing, painting, reading, and cherishing moments with family. Everyone misses her dearly and eagerly awaits her return.

The road to recovery will be long, with extensive rehabilitation and physical therapy potentially spanning years. In addition to the emotional toll, the mounting medical expenses are overwhelming. My father and I have essentially been living at the hospital, and we need help to manage our rapidly growing medical bills.
