In 2025, Clara started experiencing symptoms that led her to obtain lab work which showed she was in Stage 4 kidney disease. The news was very sudden and left us confused as to what was causing her kidneys to fail. After managing her very specific and specialized diet for months, she was able to improve kidney function somewhat. However, other bloodwork results remained concerning and indicated the need for further testing. Following additional evaluations and biopsies, Clara was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in early 2026.

She has spent her entire career in healthcare, most recently as a school nurse, always putting the needs of others before her own. She has two daughters and three grandchildren. She has touched countless lives through her compassion and dedication, making a difference in her community every single day. Now, she is facing one of the toughest challenges of her life. As she prepares to begin treatment, the costs are mounting, and the uncertainty about her ability to continue working is weighing heavily on her mind. She is especially worried about losing her health insurance and the possibility of going into medical debt, which adds to the stress of her diagnosis.
