Earlier this year, Araceli was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. It was a shock to everyone when doctors found she had stage 4B cervical cancer at the age of 27.

Nothing prepares you for news like this. If you know Araceli, you know how gentle and kind she is. She’s soft-spoken, deeply creative, and someone who shows up for others without asking for anything in return. This diagnosis came out of nowhere, and now she’s facing months of intensive treatment.

Her fiancé, Ian, has stepped into the role of full-time caregiver while also managing their home and everyday life. Both Araceli and Ian are currently on short-term disability and paid leave, but those supports only last about 12 weeks. After that, there are a lot of unknowns, and the financial pressure will continue even as treatment goes on.

Cancer not only takes a toll on the body, but also affects every part of life. Even with insurance, the costs add up quickly: medical bills, medications, specialist visits, transportation, and basic living expenses while work is put on hold. The last thing Araceli and Ian should be worrying about right now is how they’re going to make ends meet.

Su prometido, Ian, ha asumido el rol de cuidador de tiempo completo, al mismo tiempo que se encarga de su hogar y de todo lo cotidiano. Actualmente, tanto Araceli como Ian cuentan con discapacidad temporal y licencia pagada, pero estos apoyos solo duran alrededor de 12 semanas.
