April's Mission: Healing Humanity With Love Beginning At Birth

While most girls were busy drawing rainbows on sidewalks and sneaking into their mother’s makeup, 5-year-old April Dawn was beginning her journey through foster care. Born into a life of hardship, she faced challenges that few of us could have ever imagined. And yet, despite her difficult start, April’s compassion and strength have endured, gifting our world with a woman on a mission to help mothers and babies thrive from a loving beginning.

Love, Loss, and Purpose

April’s journey has been one of resilience and an ever-growing compassion for others. Born to abusive and alcoholic parents, April experienced her childhood in foster care and multiple abusive homes. Then, to escape the abuse she was adopted into, she would need to return to the foster care system. Years later, as a teenager, April experienced an unexpected pregnancy. And again, through unimaginable heartache, April was forced to make a decision that would further separate her from having a family. Although a baby of her own would provide the unconditional love she most desperately craved as a child, this teenage girl committed the selfless act of finding a loving home and family for her baby boy. April knew that her son deserved a life she couldn't yet give to him.

Through a traumatic hospital birth, she witnessed how a lack of support can leave lasting scars. It was in that moment that April found her calling: to help others birth with love, care, and support - in so doing, to elevate the heart of humanity. April’s unwavering love for others has led her to where she is today, offering her heart and soul in the realm of birth.

As a doula for over 30 years, April has always given extensive education, support, and care to her clients, in pregnancy and throughout delivery and recovery. She not only informs and empowers mothers through their pregnancy and birth, but also cooks and delivers them homemade meals and treats, dreaming up recipes that marry nutrition and nourishment with deliciousness beautifully, deeply nurturing the mother. April is the embodiment of the love and support that every pregnant mother deserves.

After furthering her education in prenatal care, nutrition, and holistic healing, April now has the opportunity to complete her training as a midwife at the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery. This intense three-year program requires a full-time commitment 365 days a year.

For April, this is not just a career. It is her way of changing the world for the better. She has seen firsthand how birth shapes a person’s health, confidence, and emotional well-being. She believes every mother deserves to feel safe, informed, and empowered during birth, and every baby deserves to enter the world in peace, not trauma, with parents that are empowered to raise their child to be their whole, healthiest self.

As a midwife, she will be able to provide families with the most natural, organic, and gentle birthing experience possible. She will educate, nurture, and empower families by ensuring that both mother and baby receive the love and care they deserve.

What Does April Need?

To complete her midwifery training, April needs to raise $4,000 immediately and an additional $4,000 per month for the next three years for tuition, living expenses, and necessary supplies.

She is already committed to serving her current clients but will need financial support to continue to fully dedicate herself to this life-changing work.
