Hello Everyone,
As some may know, and many do not know, April has recently struggled with some side effects to her rare genetic condition known as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This has resulted in multiple hospital stays over the last few months and lots of appointments to attend to as well.
At this moment, she’s on a wait list to be seen at Mayo Clinic EDS Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Once she receives the call her time on the wait list is up, her appointment will be about 2 months later. The Mayo Clinic does not contract with insurance/HMOs, which is what they have for an insurance. In order to get the specialized care and get the best outcomes for long term health and success, this is the place to be. This will be entirely out of pocket for the medical expenses and all travel expenses, which will likely exceed 20k when all is said and done. There’s an initial visit consisting of several days and then yearly follow-ups with all care being executed by her current teams here in MA at the direction of the Mayo EDS team.
Those who know April know how much she gives of herself without asking for much in return. She puts everyone else ahead of herself and now we have the opportunity to show her the same love and support she shows others.
During her hospital stay in May, Will was unfortunately laid off from his job. This has been both a blessing and a curse for them. It’s a blessing because he is home to be with April for all the appointments, and yet a curse because he’s now looking for employment in an uncertain job market.
On top of it all, 7-year-old Maverick has been a rockstar. He helps out his momma whenever he can and looks forward to “beating my momma in a race” very soon.
Neither April nor Will would ever do this for themselves and ask for this help so, with their permission, we are launching this GoFundMe with them as the beneficiaries.
The money raised from this GoFundMe will go directly to current medical expenses, expenses related to being seen at the Mayo Clinic (medical & travel), gas money for current appointments, meals on the go, and other related expenses to getting April back to her normal self and ready for work to start the 2025-2026 school year.
Thank you for your support in helping to ease the financial burden on the Winter Family! Every little bit helps, and together we can pull together to make a large impact on their lives and decrease the stress during this time!
Please feel free to share because every share helps. Keep them uplifted in your thoughts and live by April’s new motto “Don’t let the hard days win”
