hi everyone, Amelia here, fundraising on behalf of my sister April who was in a tragic, life changing accident this week. April, who lives with leukaemia, currently resides in Peterborough, Ontario and though she cannot work a typical 9-5 due to her disability and medical condition, she has always been a willing volunteer to help friends, family, and her community. Unfortunately, this week, while helping out her friends, my sister was crushed by a trash compactor and she was airlifted from her home to St. Michael’s hospital in Toronto. Despite the fast action by Tim and EMS, the medical team was able to save her right leg, but tragically she lost her left leg below the knee. April is not entitled to medical EI as she is not an employee, nor was she working and her family does not have private insurance, only OHIP, which leaves responsible for all bills pertaining to her recovery while they are staying in Toronto, one of the most expensive cities in Canada. Despite this, April remains in good spirits, her signature positive attitude shines through despite being faced with massive challenges throughout her life. It would be so meaningful if we, as a community, could collectively support her by taking on some of the financial burden they are facing while she is in recovery and rehabilitation in Toronto.
