Update as of 2/15/26: on Thursday 2/12 Chip started his chemo therapy and radiation therapy. Radiation will be Monday-Friday for six weeks and chemo pills every day. Chip is showing such a positive outlook and remains hopeful as he undergoes his treatments. Chip remains positive during this incredibly difficult time. He is amazing everyone from nurses to doctors and his family and friends with his outlook. Let’s keep those positive vibes going for him and April! Both Chip and April are so grateful for their village of supporters during this time.

My name is Nicole and I am a childhood friend of April (Mudge) Grant and longtime friend of her husband Chip. April and Chip are salt-of-the-earth people, involved in their communities and often showing up for others in their time of need. They are both involved in their community networking groups, have voluntarily taken on housing Chip's niece at their home, and April continues to be a full-time caregiver for her own mother in a nursing home. Now they need our help.

On the evening of Sunday, November 9, Chip became confused, incoherent, and suddenly unresponsive while at home; he went into a seizure and emergency services arrived to take him to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, Chip suffered several more seizures and was intubated and put on life support while in the ICU. He was put in a medically induced coma. During this time, initial test results showed no sign of stroke or brain bleeds. On November 14, Chip woke up from his coma and has since been released home. The cause of his brain injury is still unknown, and they are pending brain biopsy and spinal tap results.

It is unknown how long Chip will be out of work. Between loss of work, medical bills, house bills, and general upkeep of the home, costs will continue to rise. In addition to this, April herself has chronic ongoing health issues, is on disability, and a limited income.

I would love to see the community come together for these two wonderful people. They have been through so much and ask so little. Thank you for any donations you are able to give. Every bit counts. As we have more updates, we will also update this page.
