Hi, my name is Marissa Santos. My husband and I got a Rottweiler puppy when he was 3 months old. His name is Apollo. We brought him back home with us and he has been such a happy, healthy puppy who loves to play with everyone. On Friday, November 18th, he had gotten into a pen and chewed it and ingested some ink. We called the vet and they said he’ll be fine that it will just take a day or two to pass out of his system. So he would just lay down in one spot and not eat or drink but we thought it was just part of him passing the ink through. On Sunday morning around 4:30am we woke up to him wheezing and throwing up. The doctors said that the throw up should stop within the first night so it was really weird. After we cleaned him up, we went to lay back down but he could not go an hour without spitting up. We started looking online and thought okay maybe he just needs some food in his system. So we waited for the stores to open and got the suggested food by the vet. After it was made, he would smell it but would not touch it at all. This made us really concerned and took him to the vet emergency room. He is only 4 1/2 months now so they said because he’s still just a puppy, they wanted to check for parvo before continuing with everything else. He’s had his vaccinations so we thought okay that’s fine but he shouldn’t have that. Unfortunately, they came back out about 10 minutes after and told us the test was positive for parvo. Our hearts immediately shattered and we couldn’t even process such a nightmare. For those who don’t know what parvo is, here is the definition: Canine parvovirus is a contagious virus mainly affecting dogs. CPV is highly contagious and is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces. Vaccines can prevent this infection, but mortality can reach 91% in untreated cases. Treatment often involves veterinary hospitalization. The vet went over all the details with us and what they would need to do in order to help Apollo fight through this sickness. He has been in there for the weekend but has continued to vomit and have diarrhea. He still has not ate since Friday evening. We are trying our best to stay strong for him and help in every way we can. The treatment and hospitalization is just so expensive and hard to afford for us right now that we ask for all the help we can get. Literally anything helps in order for us to get our baby better and back home.
