Burning Man Camp Sharing Safe Shade & Hand Washing

We're A Playa Home Companion (APHC) - a Burning Man Camp dedicated to giving back to the Burning Man community by engaging as volunteers and event staff throughout the event and by providing a safe, welcoming, consent-focused camp for all who visit.

Burning Man is a one of a kind event where a WHOLE CITY springs up in the most inhospitable of conditions - the Black Rock Desert. Surviving Burning Man takes planning, grit, and community.

Often, people reflect on Burning Man as life changing - and we love supporting fellow Burners on that journey. Help us help other burners through one of the most physically and emotionally challenging events most attendees have ever been part of.

Our camp typically hosts between 15-25 campers and hundreds of visitors over the week of Burning Man. Your support will help us spread share our care and bring tried and true Burning Man Camping habits to fellow burners. As a camp with both seasoned and new burners, we love welcoming all types into our shady oasis - and you can help us make it even better.

2025 will be APHC's 10th year as a camp - and we're ready to level up! For the past few years, we've adopted the theme of "mom's hostile hostel" - providing passersby with ice water and electrolytes (usually something you have to bring for yourself for the whole week), a shade structure to rest under, and a consent focused environment to ensure visitors feel safe and learn how to BE safe for others!

This year, we're fundraising to make our shade safer. Right now, while our shade is MUCH better than full sun, it does not provide any UV protection. We'd like to offer visitors a sun-safe location to cool off and get their bearings in the chaos that is Burning Man.

We're also adding a hand washing station to our kitchen - a rare treat to get to wash your hands on Playa! What better ways to spread care and to support people in a harsh environment that encourages deep reflection and emotional processing than a place to wash your hands and a shade that doesn't burn you?
