“The continent might only be able to feed 25% of its population by 2025.” Karl Hamson, Director of United Nations University

With declining agricultural stocks and high food prices, weakened productivity due to climate change, continuous use of techniques that adversely affect soil fertility and water, poorly rewarded farmers and more recently the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that Africa is in a precarious food security situation.

It is against this backdrop that African Philanthropy Forum (APF) is dedicating Day 2 of its 2020 Conference holding from October 28 – 30 to discussing strategies for increased food security on the Continent. Beyond this, APF is leveraging the Conference to launch a fundraiser in support of FarmGro Africa which is on the frontlines of driving food production in Kenya.

FarmGro Africa is an Agri-Technology firm based in Bungoma, Kenya it uses innovative and appropriate agricultural technologies to improve the livelihoods of rural communities. They build smallholder farmers and youth group capacity through;

* Greenhouse Technology/ Build & Manage

* Technical Assistance/ Training & Events

* Market Development as a service/ Advisory & Sourcing

With the funds provided, FarmGro Africa plans to:

* Scale up the re-establishment of green houses
* Scale up grow backs to get a balanced diet for families; with 30 dollars they can feed a family of six.
