We are asking for help to assist our trainer, Anya Stiller at Windy Willow Equestrian, with catastrophic vet bills incurred as a result of her very pregnant mare rupturing her deep digital flexor tendon on March 22, 2025. Morgan was 318 days pregnant at the time. The same day this happened Anya had anaphylaxis from a medication and ended up in the hospital. Her vet determined that Morgan would have to go to University of PA New Bolton Center because Morgan was in distress from her injury and have a c-section ASAP.
On 3/24 Morgan was admitted to New Bolton Center with a high heart rate from pain and had an emergency c-section. Sadly, Morgan passed away. Her foal was very premature and in the ICU for 16 days. He was unable to stand or eat on his own so a feeding tube had to be placed. Staff worked around the clock for many days to take care of him. He developed sepsis in his umbilicus and part of his bladder, and developed a blood clot in his feeding tube vein. In order to survive he underwent surgery to remove the infection from his bladder and umbilicus. Freeman spent 16 days in the hospital.
After a successful surgery, Anya transported a nurse mare to New Bolton and she accepted the baby! Finally, Freeman and his nurse mare could come home. At home in Virginia, Freeman continues to receive antibiotics and multiple medications to support his recovery. Freeman has a long way to go still but he is doing much better.
The cost for Morgan’s c-section surgery, Freeman’s 16 day hospital stay and surgery were quite expensive and unexpected. We are asking for donations to help his owners recover so that they can continue to care for Freeman and operate their wonderful riding school. Any amount you can donate matters and helps! Thank you!
