Support Anton's Fight Against Rare Brain Condition ❤️

My name is Dimitrij Baal, and I’m raising funds for my brother, Anton Baal, who is currently in critical condition in Bali after being diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening neurological condition.

What Happened

Eight months ago, Anton began experiencing strange health episodes — dizziness, cold sweats, slurred speech, and sudden weakness, often after working out. At first, we thought it was fatigue or illness. But the symptoms kept returning and worsening.

Just two weeks ago, after a dizzy spell and vomiting episode at the gym, Anton could barely walk. He started spending most of his days in bed, too weak to stand, with grey skin, blue fingernails, and dangerously low body temperature. It got so bad that we had to call an ambulance — he was barely conscious by the time help arrived.

At the hospital, Anton was diagnosed with a rare condition called Dural Arteriovenous Fistula (DAVF) — an abnormal connection between arteries and veins in the brain that can lead to dangerously high pressure, brain swelling, and bleeding. In Anton’s case, bleeding had already occurred.

His Urgent Medical Needs

Anton has already undergone two procedures: (1) Brain-to-abdomen shunt to drain fluid and relieve pressure; (2) An embolization surgery to seal some of the abnormal vessels.

A third embolization is urgently required to close off the remaining fistulas and prevent another potentially fatal brain bleed.

Why This Matters So Much

Anton is not just my brother — but a great man that has touched the lives of so many people. He has a deeply kind and grounded nature who never asks for help, even when he’s suffering. Watching him decline like this has been terrifying. Now that we finally have a diagnosis and a clear treatment path, I want to do everything I can to make sure he gets through this.

How the Funds Will Be Used

The cost of the embolization procedure is 704,000,000 IDR (around $43,000 USD). Unfortunately, Anton’s health insurance in Indonesia won’t cover the cost — it only becomes active after 12 months, and his policy started in August 2024.

Our family has taken out a loan to cover 50% of the cost so far, just to make the second surgery possible. We now need to raise the remaining balance as well as cover:
