A Boricua Student’s Dream to Study History in Portugal
Help a first-generation college student turn a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity into reality.
Hello everyone,
My name is Antonia (Gaby) Quiñones, and I’m a proud 20-year-old Boricua studying at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Ever since I can remember, I’ve been passionate about history — the stories of our people, the lessons of the past, and how they shape who we are today. My dream is to one day become a History Professor, inspiring others to see the world through the lens of culture, resilience, and hope.
Recently, my African History professor invited me to join a study abroad program in Lisbon, Portugal, in June 2026 — an incredible opportunity to explore the connections between African and European histories firsthand. This experience would not only deepen my understanding of global history but also help me represent my community and heritage in academic spaces where voices like mine are often underrepresented.
I’m a full-time student, working part-time and driving Uber when I can, all while keeping up with classes and homework. Despite my best efforts, I can’t cover the full cost of this trip on my own. That’s why I’m reaching out for support.
I know times are hard for many, and it’s not easy to give — but even the smallest donation will help me take one step closer to this dream. Your support means more than just funding a trip; it means investing in a young woman’s future, in education, and in the belief that dreams are possible with faith, perseverance, and community.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading my story, sharing it, and believing in me.
Blessings and love,
