Anthony’s day began the way most good days do — walking his two dogs, enjoying the fresh air and warm Spring weather. It ended in a fight for his life. Anthony was violently mowed down by a hit-and-run driver while crossing a street in the low key business area in Oakland after a long day at work. The driver was speeding, fled the scene, and abandoned the car. The vehicle was later recovered by police and discovered to be stolen. The driver remains at large and their identity is still unknown.
Anthony, 59, remains in very critical condition with a traumatic brain injury, a fractured skull that nearly severed his spine, and multiple injuries throughout his body. Anthony’s recovery will be long, intense, and require multiple medical procedures, ongoing healing, and extensive support. Anthony is a beloved independent contractor, husband, and father of five. As an independent contractor, Anthony has no paid leave or income protection — every day Anthony cannot work is a day without pay for him & his family.
We are asking for your support to help Anthony and his family while he heals. The road ahead will be challenging, and Anthony & his family will need support now more than ever to get through this long and intense recovery. Any amount helps, and every share really matters. We also want to express our deepest heartfelt gratitude to the kind strangers in Oakland, California who stopped to help Anthony. So many immediately surrounded Anthony to protect him from further harm in the middle of the street until emergency services arrived — you restored our faith in humanity. And also to the police officers and emergency responders who arrived within minutes, thank you for being there when it mattered most. Please know that any amount is so greatly appreciated, even if it's just prayers or sharing this story. We will provide updates as we can on Anthony’s condition as we take this one day at a time. Thank you for standing with Anthony.
