Hi everyone,

My name is Anthony Makres & I am a work from home crafter, line dance teacher and travel agent.

On Thursday, August 7, 2025 cellulitis appeared on my right leg. My husband Bob said we are going to the dr. We left immediately to go to Patient First and they did some tests showing very high white blood cell count and said either we drive to hospital or they are calling ambulance. Since the Patient First office is in front of Bayview Hospital we just drove across the street. They gave us paperwork saying that I could have sepsis along with the cellulitis. We were immediately taken back by the nurses.

There was a small ulcer on the bottom of my foot which was bandaged for 2 days but almost gone. When they removed the bandage they saw grey and black skin and rushed me to get a CT scan where they found out it was gas producing Gang Green setting in under the skin. I was asked to sign papers because immediate surgery was needed and they may have to cut part of my foot off.

After surgery when I woke up I was told that they took the last 2 toes and part of my foot due to this fast moving bacteria. They put on many antibiotics in which i had a reaction from one of them and broke out with red blisters all over my legs & arms which turned out to be IGA Vasculitis. I was also told at that time that I would need one or more surgeries for my foot.
Then on Monday, August 11, 2025 they did their 2nd surgery in which they had to take 2 more toes and part of my foot once more. Now I have been told there will be a 3rd surgery to either take more of my foot and close the wound or just close the wound.

It's been 11 days and I am still in the hospital having been moved 4 times including going to ICU for a few days. I will most likely be here another week as they are doing a Kidney Biopsy on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 to make sure that the IGA Vasculitis is not attacking my kidney since the kidney functions have decreases since being admitted to the hospital. Then once I am done here I have to start rehab/physical therapy someplace local so that I can start walking again and get around.

I normally would not ask for help but I have had to cancel 3 bus trips and line dancing where I make my money to pay pay my bills and have no other income coming in. So any help is appreciated.

With love,
Anthony
