Support Anomie's Journey In Nursing
Donation protected
In 2008 I medically withdrew from college with a 4.0 in biochemistry to have brain/spine surgery for Chiari Malformation and craniocervical instability affecting my brainstem.
The surgeries saved my life, but complications left me permanently disabled with quadriparesis (incomplete paralysis).
I spent sixteen years recovering physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I stayed positive with music and disability rights advocacy under the name "Anomie Fatale."
My primary mobility aid is a power wheelchair. I like to call myself "polymobile" because I've also made huge amounts of progress in physical therapy over the past two years where I can ambulate with crutches for certain amounts of time.
I wanted to go back to school for something meaningful for all of my life experiences. I chose Nursing because I want to give back to my Disabled community with the knowledge and strength I've acquired. I also only needed five prerequisites to apply to Nursing School because of the education I'd had in my former life in biochem.
Although I still require assistance with many things, we're figuring out solutions at every barrier. Nursing is a very broad field, there is a place for me. Although I have physical limitations, I'm still very intelligent, competent, and capable. I can prove that now with my current 4.0 GPA and that I aced the TEAS entry exam on my first try.
I've been officially accepted at the Roxborough Memorial School of Nursing (my local nursing school). I'm looking forward to the clinics because the best lessons come from real-life experiences. I've spent so much time on the other side, I believe that makes me stronger for this journey.
Unfortunately, the program I was counting on covering a huge portion of this had Federal cuts this year. I was also hoping my perfect GPA would help with Scholarships, but so far no luck winning those lotteries.
So I'm doing this GoFundMe to help ease the burden I'm going to have with student loans while on disability and for necessary supplies and books.
Thank you for reading about my story
