Annika was born with a rare congenital heart defect, hypoplastic right heart syndrome/tricuspid atresia. The right side of her heart didn’t form and prevents her heart from sending enough blood to the lungs, resulting in low oxygen levels.

At birth she was admitted to the NICU where they preformed multiple daily tests and procedures. From x-rays and echocardiograms to blood draws and MRI’s. Her oxygen saturations were rapidly declining and within a few weeks she was transferred to the Cardiac ICU. At exactly a month old, she was rushed into the operating room for her 1st open-heart surgery.

Since then she has had a cath procedure and a 2nd open-heart surgery. Annika has been discharged with an oxygen concentrator, feeding tube, pulse oximeter and multiple medications as we continue to closely monitor and preform cares for her at home.

She is scheduled to have another cath procedure and 3rd open-heart surgery, all before her first birthday.

No matter what challenges this presents, Annika continues to persevere and we are determined to do everything in our power to give her the best life possible!

She is the happiest baby, despite’s everything she’s been through. Many more thoughts & prayers are needed as we continue to improve her quality of life. While this is only the beginning of her lifelong journey, we will celebrate each milestone she reaches ⭐️ Our sweet faced Annika, you are our bright shining light!
