On August 8, Annette Hanes was in the hospital and ready to be released when she suddenly aspirated and coded twice for 27 minutes. She spent 42 days in the ICU in a medically induced coma on life support. After the respirator was removed, Annette was put on a trach and moved to Select Hospital ICU, where she slowly regained her strength and was eventually able to have the trach removed. During this time, the special medication that kept her alive caused her hands and feet to turn black, and she was told they might need to be amputated. By the grace of God, only one thumb, a partial thumb, and five toes had to be removed. After a short stay at Select Hospital rehab, Annette was moved to De Luna Rehabilitation, where she is currently regaining her strength and learning to walk and use her hands for everyday tasks. At this time, she is confined to a wheelchair, and her house needs to be modified for accessibility.
Funds given to Annette will be used to help modify her home for her future needs, ensuring it is accessible for her use in a wheelchair. The support will also help with her bills and other living expenses. Any excess funds will be used to pay monthly bills such as utilities, mortgage, and car payments. Annette is truly grateful to be alive and is appreciative of those who have visited her, sent cards, brought food, and prayed for her. Now, as she looks toward the future, she hopes for support to help meet her long-term needs. She is truly living out her life Bible verse, 1 Thessalonians 5:16—Rejoice evermore.
