Dear friends and family,
We are reaching out to you with the story of Anne, also known as Karianne (Geraghty) Weed, who is more than just a name – she's a beloved wife, a mom of six (with two children still at home), a cherished daughter, a devoted sister, a loyal friend, a hard worker, and above all, an embodiment of determination. Anne's unwavering faith in Jesus provides her strength throughout her journey.
Anne's life took an unexpected and challenging turn when she began experiencing symptoms of ALS. First came obvious symptoms, including foot drop and muscle fasciculations, surfacing in May 2023. This prompted the start of a series of endless medical tests aimed at ruling out multiple other potential diagnoses. Unfortunately, all of these tests lead her team of doctors to the official diagnosis of ALS in September 2023. By this point, her symptoms had progressed to include significant weakness in both her legs and back. By the end of October, Anne found herself unable to climb stairs or walk any significant distance without the aid of a walker. As a response, plans are in motion to install stair chairs and exterior ramps before winter arrives.
Anne's health insurance is tied to her job. She’s doing everything she can to maintain this insurance by working as much as she can from home! However, her primary source of income came from working in the field, of which her muscle loss has now prevented her to continue. The balancing act of multiple medical and therapy appointments, work, and the excess physical and mental exertion required for even the most ordinary daily tasks have added to the overwhelming fatigue already caused by this relentless disease.
The financial pressure has been mounting. Anne is on three critical medications aimed at stalling the progression of ALS in her body. She will need to take each of these for the rest of her life. While insurance covers a significant portion of the cost of these medications, the part it doesn't cover is growing rapidly. The financial strain is exacerbated by appointment co-pays and the impending new year. Each January, the deductible resets and must be met again before full insurance coverage resumes.
After seeking advice from financial professionals, a GoFundMe goal was set to help Anne and her family navigate this initial season of living with ALS.
We kindly ask you to join us in supporting Anne and her family by contributing to this campaign to help alleviate the financial burden they are currently facing. Your support will make a significant difference. Your support will allow this family to care for one another, both body and soul. Your support will allow Anne to enjoy the blessings this life has to offer without the burden finances can bring to an already difficult situation, and your support will help Anne’s family make necessary handicap accessible changes to the home.
With deep gratitude,
Tori Grantmeyer and Cindy Geraghty (Anne’s Daughter and Mom) and the Supporters of Anne Weed
