Hello friends!

My name is Sarah May. I am an artist, poet, and community organizer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have been creating art, writing poetry, teaching workshops, and advocating for Salt Lake, an imperiled saline lake at risk of disappearing due to receding water levels.

It is through this work that I met my dear friend, Anna Pocaro, a fellow artist who uses her gifts of photography and her garden reclamation business to be a voice and advocate for Great Salt Lake in the Salt Lake community.

Anna is a Stage III Breast Cancer Survivor, and she found out earlier this year that her cancer has returned and she needs a full mastectomy, scheduled for early November. Anna is a self-employed owner of two businesses and a single mother of two who will be unable to work while recovering from this extensive procedure until the beginning of 2026.

Anna has put countless hours into her community as a mentor, facilitator, collaborator, friend, and advocate for vulnerable populations, volunteering weekly with populations in the prison system and those who have experienced substance abuse. She is also the resident photographer for Making Waves Artist Collaborative (a volunteer-led non-profit advocating for Great Salt Lake through participatory art), where she has donated countless hours of her skill and expertise towards documenting the art activism currently happening around Great Salt Lake, and the yearly vigil for the lake during the Utah Legislative Session.

Anna supports and uplifts her people without question. It is time for us to rally around her and hold her and her family during this time of uncertainty and upheaval. With financial help, Anna will be able to recover from her mastectomy, pay her medical bills, make sure her kid's needs are covered, and fully support her in her next chapter as a two-time Breast Cancer Survivor.
