My name is Leslie Nick Monroe, and I am starting this campaign for my son, Scott Monroe, and his girlfriend, Anna Ritter.

On August 4th, Anna collapsed and was rushed to the hospital in septic shock. During the emotional roller coaster of the last two weeks, we have learned she has (previously undiagnosed) late stage liver failure. In recent days her condition has deteriorated quickly. She is currently in critical but stable condition in the ICU in Mobile, Alabama, intubated and unable to communicate with her loved ones. Anna is facing a long and arduous journey which will entail a liver transplant, extensive rehabilitation, and long-term care.

This health crisis comes at an especially difficult time. Earlier this year, Anna lost her job when her entire department was suddenly eliminated — which left her without income or health insurance. She and Scott had been in the midst of preparations to relocate to another city in order to be closer to her family, something that will now be absolutely essential to her recovery.

Both families are doing everything in our power to support them — covering expenses, making arrangements, supporting Scott, and staying by Anna’s bedside — but the financial burden is quickly becoming overwhelming. Mounting medical bills, living costs, and moving expenses are more than we can manage alone.

Through it all, Scott has remained devoted to supporting Anna, the love of his life, in every way possible. They are in this journey together. Our families have rallied around Scott and Anna with an outpouring of love and support, however much help and support is still needed.

We are asking for your generosity to help ease this tremendous burden so Anna and her loved ones can focus fully on her recovery. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward her medical care, recovery and living expenses, and the costs of starting over closer to family.
