Support Annalynn's Brave Battle with Leukemia

Annalynn saw a GoFundMe page for one of our family members and asked me to do the same to share her story.

Annalynn had been sick on and off since August. Symptoms that came and went were stomach pain, head pain, leg pain, and fatigue/lethargy. Then, her and her brother got a stomach bug. Annalynn had it worse and went to the ER twice and both kids saw their pediatrician. We were told it was a virus and to let it run its course. A month later, they still weren’t better so they were prescribed antibiotics. Nathan fully recovered, but Annalynn still had lingering symptoms. We had already made another appointment for her to see her pediatrician and asked to have lab work done.

Fast forward to this past week, Annalynn’s symptoms worsened. She became extremely lethargic, she started developing dark circles under her eyes, and had pain in both legs which prevented her from dancing. On Monday, she looked pale so we took her to urgent care and the PA recommended we take her to a Children’s ER for a comprehensive exam. So we did…

On Tuesday, the doctor told me they “highly suspect leukemia.” My heart…my baby…

The doctor told me there was nothing we could’ve done to prevent this from happening. Even though she had signs and symptoms since August, the cancer was new—it wouldn’t have been detected then. It’s not genetic and it’s not environmental—it just happened—it’s bad luck.

In the last 5 days Annalynn’s undergone multiple blood and platelet transfusions, a bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture with chemo, and had a PICC line placed. On Friday, she completed her 1st round of chemo. She has B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL). Survival rate for her age, 9 years old, is over 90%, but treatment is long— 2-3 years. Most of her treatments can be done as an outpatient after they discharge her. We’re hoping she can go home this Tuesday.
