Mom, Nanny, Anna, Anna Lee, Ann, is how she is known by some. This is for my Nanny, Anna Lee.
I’m Brittany, and as most of you know, my nanny has been through the wringer this past year. Nanny has a hereditary kidney disease, polycystic kidneys, which causes cysts to take over your organs. She now has them in her one kidney and liver. Nanny did a year of dialysis in 2004 before getting a kidney transplant. In 2024, she suffered a fall which led to a significant brain bleed and kidney failure. Now, in 2025, she has had to start dialysis again 20+ years later. Dialysis in your 60s is a lot different than it is in your 80s, and it has taken its toll on her. We are still hopeful for transplant testing to begin soon, in hopes of a second chance with a transplant.
With that being said, my grandparents are both on a fixed income, which barely makes ends meet as it is, with no room for emergency.
Unexpected wheelchair cost - $200
Gas for transportation to the dialysis clinic - $25 per week +/-
Glasses - her last visit in 2015 out of pocket expense was around $300
Misc - groceries, medical bills, other expenses
