Support Ann Myra's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
On June 1st 2018 a dear friend, Ann Myra nearly lost her life in a sailing misadventure. Thankfully she was rescued from a near fatal accident that left her with a fractured skull and traumatic brain injury which she is still recovering from today. If it weren’t for the US Coastguards rescue at 2:30am 70 miles off the coast of San Diego things could have looked very different. The recovery from such a brain injury takes months to years of healing, starting with a series of neurosurgeries followed by physical therapy and rehabilitation.
I was fortunate to meet Ann during a surf trip to Baja in 2016. It was a spur of the moment event that was planned before the start of a new job. I just remember how impressed I was by Ann’s optimism for life, and eagerness to connect with others who shared the same passion for life as she did. “Carpe Diem” is her mantra. These two words are at the core of what makes Ann who she is and how she’s managed to stay resilient through these difficult times.
Ann is no stranger to the many challenges life can throw at you. Years prior to the accident she was diagnosed with breast cancer which is how our stories intersected most recently.
Earlier this year my own breast cancer diagnosis sent shock waves through my life, and despite the ugly truths surrounding a breast cancer diagnosis, hearing Ann’s stories and approach to life are making all the difference in my own journey through the steps to recovery and remission. She is one of the most open hearted, optimistic people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Everything she does is in service of what can bring the most joy and light at this very moment which leads to courage, hope and love to anyone who is open to it.
This TBI has made it challenging for Ann to recover cognitively, leaving her few opportunities to support herself long-term. Starting August 1st, she plans to leave her home in search of a new life—one that brings her closer to family and offers the support she needs to continue healing and pursue her work bringing joy to others as an artist.
Any donation amount is appreciated and will contribute to the cost of medical bills, cost of living expenses, and the ability for her to get her feet back on the ground. Ann continues to provide a wealth of positive support to others through her books, artist collaborations, podcasts, music, visual art and stories about healing that so many have benefited from.
