Support Ann Itto's Mission: Save Premature Babies

Donation protected
This is the time of year I raise money for an orphanage I support in Uganda, run by Ann Itto, who I originally met when I was assigned to South Sudan. In addition to helping her children have a great Christmas, this year she needs a new incubator for her medical center. This is her message.

This message is a request for contribution for us to purchase a much needed incubator for the very young and sick children, your kindness and support will be greatly appreciated.

Healthcare is a vital need not only for the children and young-women living on-site; but for our community at large. With an emphasis on prevention and care, our orphanage provides support for the community by offering them accessible, quality healthcare. We need this incubator now because people are bringing newborn babies to us, and some of them need the extra shelter that the incubator provides. The available incubator is getting crowded and we need a new one to cater for the growing number of newly born premature babies. 75% of deaths of premature babies are preventable. In addition, the vast majority of premature births and related deaths occur in our communities due to infections, malaria, HIV. The high levels of adolescent pregnancy also impact this problem. In our country, just 10% of babies born before 28 weeks live. Whereas in rich countries, 90% survive. Therefore it is clear that there is an issue that needs addressing. We are therefore kindly requesting your support to help us secure a new and modern incubator, where conditions are suitable for a newborn, premature or ill baby. This incubator will allow babies to be kept in a sterile environment so that they are protected from germs, minimizing the risk of infection. This is particularly important in many refugee settings where conditions are less than ideal for newborn babies. We are looking at a contribution of 1500 US dollars for this. We are currently incubating poor and premature babies in our orphanage health center, but the situation is becoming overwhelming and the condition of the current incubator is not good. These incubators are vital in keeping premature babies alive in their first 28 days of life, but not everyone has access to them. It’s our mission to increase that access. 1500 US dollars will cover the costs of buying and refurbishing one incubator, saving one young life at a time. Thank you all for your support.
