Support Anjene "AJ" Davis, SC Education Organizer

A few weeks ago, Anjene “AJ” Davis experienced a massive heart attack and is now waiting on a heart transplant. He needs our support to help cover necessities for him and his family as he recovers. AJ has been working tirelessly on the frontlines in South Carolina as a public education advocate, racial justice warrior, community leader and parent organizer. He is the founder of the Lowcountry Black Parents Association and co-founder of Pro-Truth South Carolina, a statewide coalition working to protect and expand the teaching of diverse and inclusive history. AJ is dearly loved and respected by many in South Carolina and nationally.

On top of working full-time at the Charleston County School District, being a father, and serving as caregiver to his mother, AJ is constantly advocating for children and families so that they may have an improved quality of life. Among the issues he champions are fully funded and equitable public education for all, affordable housing, and a living wage. He serves his community by volunteering with numerous local organizations, his membership in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and his leadership on several boards. Anjene has given so much of his time to the movement and we are asking for the movement to show him love and support during this difficult time. We understand that not everyone will be able to donate large amounts of money, but as organizing has taught us, many people working together make things happen. Whatever you can give will go a long way to getting Anjene to a place where he won't need to worry about financial burdens on top of the everyday worries he carries.

Anjene has shared that this is a learning moment for his community to understand lessons he had to learn the hard way. He said “I’ve put my heart and soul into this work and have done so without hesitation. But I’m learning that I also need to set limits on how much I give of myself. My health and my body also require my care and I’ve neglected to give it the same energy that I have committed to organizing."
