Support Anita Roberts’ Cancer Battle

My name is Bronwyn and I am Anita Roberts’ daughter and we are raising funds to support Anita through her battle fighting cancer. She was recently diagnosed with

squamous cell carcinoma tongue and lymph node cancer.

Anita is the most loving and caring grandmother, mother, daughter, aunt, wife, cousin, neighbor and friend. Her love for her grandchildren could fill an entire room with light and love. Through her life’s work with SafeTeen she has also been a mentor, leader, advocate, teacher and counselor for thousands of people across Canada and around the world. She has given so much of her time and energy helping others and she is now in need of our help.

She is about to begin aggressive radiation and chemotherapy treatments in addition to extensive dental surgery to attack this head on. Throughout these last few weeks she has been so strong. She shared the following. “I spent a wakeful night paying attention, observing my thoughts and resisting the gravitational pull toward the darkness. Breathing, naming and releasing. And this morning, although very tired, I can feel the precious state of equanimity settling in like a warm blanket. A sense of peaceful acceptance of ‘what is’. And I hear my mama’s voice coming through. “Life is school, Anita. We suffer, we evolve, we suffer, we evolve and on and on…and in between, during the easier times, we can experience Joy. And Beauty. And Love. And that makes it all worth it. I feel so grateful for you all. Heart wide open. - Anita”

We are hoping to raise funds to cover the cost of basic living expenses like utilities, groceries, etc. as both Anita and Jeff will be unable to work at this time as the treatments and recovery will be all encompassing. The radiation treatments will greatly impact her oral health and frequent cleanings will be required as well as dentures and devices and the associated medication and prescription mouthwash and none of this is covered with her care plan. If you are able to contribute our family will be so grateful and if you are not able to at this time we understand and simply a message of support would mean so much to Anita who greatly values the power of words and connection.
