Angie Likins suffered a pretty intense stroke in early September 2024 that caused paralysis to her right side. She continues to be inpatient in Springfield, IL working daily with speech, physical & occupational therapists to bring back the mobility loss. She is now able to walk assisted & hoping to regain feeling in her right hand/arm. As you can imagine being inpatient since early September the medical expenses have taken a financial hardship as she was self employed cleaning homes. She could really use the help from friends since she is now unable to work!! Let’s help Angie have peace of mind of her medical expenses so she can truly focus on her health!! All donations are sent directly to Angie with her family making payments towards expenses.
Angie continues to improve & get stronger but will not be able to return to work in the foreseeable future. Medical expenses are growing the longer she’s inpatient. Let’s help her by donating as much as you can share.
THANK YOU to those that have already donated!! Your generosity is so appreciated & has helped with expenses. Angie is normally the first person to jump in & help others needing help. She is also a very proud, hardworking person that would never & has ever asked for help. She is the one in need now!!
Please consider donating as much as you can share with her in a one time donation or considered multiple donations over time. Every bit helps more than you know!!
Here’s what happened:
On Monday, September 9, 2024, Angie called 911 after she began experiencing shortness of breath & chest pain during the early morning hours on September 9th. She was taken to the local emergency room where she was soon diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
After this initial diagnoses, a doctor noticed the right side of her mouth had began dropping. It was soon determined Angie was experiencing a stroke. A clot-busting medicine was quickly administered in an effort to restore blood flow to her brain & lessen further damage caused by the stroke. Angie was taken immediately to ICU where she continued to experience respiratory issues & was placed on a BiPap machine. By late afternoon, her respiratory issues had began to subside & she was instead placed on hi-flo oxygen. Angie did not have any function in her right arm nor right leg and her ability to communicate was quite limited - mostly limited to yes/no. Her general cognitive skills were at minimum.
Due to the clot-busting medicine she received to combat the stroke, Angie was not able to have a heart cath procedure - doctors recommended waiting a few weeks. As part of all the tests, a CT scan was ran & doctors found that she also had clotted lungs. This led to her extended stay while doctors treated her clogged lungs & awaiting approval from the neuro team for the heart cath.
Since that first day, Angie has made progress cognitively & physically. She works every day with a speech pathologist, physical therapists & occupational therapists. Her speech is much improved but she tires easily. She has regained additional right leg function & is working to regain strength. Angie’s right arm function remains not useful however, there have been a few spontaneous movements which lends hope.
When the time is right, Angie will be released to a rehab facility to continue daily/nightly care she will need along with continued rehabilitation. They’re hoping for this to happen as soon as she has been released for her next level of care. That timeframe is unknown right now.
She has a huge network of friends and family that she really needs to rally to her side now. That is why this page is being created… so we can help her!!! We all know she would be give her last dollar to any of us if we were the ones in need.
Many Decatur musicians will recognize Angie from Linda’s Music Store as her mother was the owner and Angie worked there for most of her life. Angie now has a craft booth at The Perfect Pair, cleans homes (many of her clients she’s had for decades), and babysits her grandsons. She has been on a bowling league at Sparetime Lanes since her younger years.
Angie has a huge heart and gives so much of her time & effort helping her friends & family. Angie has a long road to recovery ahead of her & it is currently unknown when, or if, she will be able to return to work.
We are asking for your help!!! Please consider donating. Angie is need of financial help to pay for medical expenses as well as future needs of caring for her. As her friends, we are asking for your help in donating as much as you are willing.
This page will remain up so donors can donate initially as well as return to this page should they want to donate more another time or weekly, monthly, etc.
No donation is too small. Every donation received will go to Angie Likins directly to be used for medical costs, rehabilitation expenses & her house payment/utility expenses.
THANK YOU on behalf of Angie Likins & her children, family & friends. She is especially being miss by her grandchildren that are used to her coming & playing with them.
