Help Angie, Davis, and Gus Heal After a Traumatic Dog Attack
On April 16th, Angie and Gus were on their afternoon walk out when a loose dog ran across the street and latched onto Gus' neck, biting to kill.
The attack was brutal and terrifying. It took multiple heroic bystanders — and Angie, who pried the dog’s jaws open with their bare hands — to finally free him. In the struggle, Angie was bitten as well and had to seek medical attention for their injuries, including a rabies vaccination. The attacking dog was eventually corralled into a nearby backyard, where Richmond Animal Care and Control took custody.
No one has claimed ownership of the attacking dog. That means Angie and Davis are now left to carry not only the emotional trauma of the attack, but also the financial burden of medical care for both Gus and Angie.
As a community, we’re coming together to help. Donations will go directly toward covering those medical and emergency vet bills. Any funds raised beyond what’s needed will be donated to a charity of Angie’s choice to support others facing pet-related emergencies.
If you live in Church Hill, chances are you’ve seen Gus and his people — Angie or Davis — out on a walk. Gus is the sweetest pup, with a wonky smile and eyes that never seem to point in the same direction. Angie helps co-run the monthly Houndtown event and brings Gus to meet other neighborhood hounds.
We are so grateful that Gus is recovering, but the trauma of this violent attack will take time to heal. Please help ensure Angie and Davis can focus on recovery, not medical and emergency vet bills.
