Support Angel's Fight Against Leukemia

Hi my name is Janice Gutierrez. My family and I has been living in Las Vegas NV for 16 years. I am starting this Go Fund Me for my eldest daughter who is diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

My daughter's name is Julianah, (family and friends calls her "Angel") and she was 18 years old when she was first diagnosed with Cancer in July 2023. Upon hearing the news we were all devastated, as she was healthy and living an active lifestyle. This impacted our family, especially financially as we had to adapt and adjust very quickly. My Husband and I had to find ways to take turns with taking care of her and her 2 younger siblings. My husband had to take a significant time off of work to help out with alternating between dropping off our 2 kids to school and taking care of Angel in the hospital.

My daughter underwent chemotherapy in July and it was not easy to watch her endure the side effects of chemo. Everyday for 7 days, a nurse would come in to administer a new bag of chemo and she was always in pain every time they had to administer the medications through her IV. She also needed blood transfusions as her platelet levels and RBC were always low and all I could do at that time was hold her hand and pray, hoping to somewhat ease her pain.

After 5 months of treatment and staying at the Hospital, her doctor's gave us the good news that she could finally go home and continue her treatment at home. We were very excited to finally take her back home, knowing that the treatments worked and she is one step closer to fully recovering. For a month after going home, she still had to get chemo treatments as an outpatient. Until her doctors declared that she was cancer free and was able to remove the port where they were administering her chemotherapy.

For a while she was able to go back to her usual daily activities. She went back to school, hanged out with friends and her siblings. We were also very happy to see that her hair was starting to grow back and she was beginning to gain back her self-confidence and energy to do things she always loved to do.

May 2024- We noticed that there were lymph nodes growing on parts of her body and it became very concerning when one of those lymph nodes grew in size. We then made an appointment with her Oncologists to find out what is causing the growth of her lymph nodes. They did a blood draw and found cancer cells again. They scheduled her for another Biopsy- confirming that her cancer is back. Upon hearing this news, everything that we felt in the beginning came back and we were once again devastated. Her dad and I could not believe it and did not know what to say but to try and comfort our daughter. The doctor immediately recommended that she undergo transplant as soon as possible and will need to be transferred to UC San Diego for both chemo and bone marrow transplant.

We started this Go Fund Me page to seek financial help as we prepare to head out to California for her treatments. The funds that we accumulate from this Go Fund Me page will be allotted to our travel, food and essential expenses. As my husband is the only one providing for the family. Any amount will help us and will be greatly appreciated.
